Just trying to buy gametime for FF14 but I can't do it directly from the Steam software. So I have to take this super round about way through the FF14 website and login to Steam from the chrome page the square enix website takes me, because Steam and Square Enix both seem to have something against making things easy and efficient. I have all of my steam login saved on chrome but it would tell me that the login information is correct. So I change my password just so I can get in. Then it keeps telling me I've tried logging in too many times. So I wait til the lock is over. Then it tells me that the password I just changed it to is incorrect. And ofcourse Steam doesn't have a customer support number to call or an online chat. No the only option is to create a ticket and pray someone actually gets back to you. Now I'm logged out of the app too and it keeps telling me the password that I JUST CHANGED IT TO FIVE SECONDS AGO is incorrect and I can't login. So even if they do get back to me I won't be able to respond or even read it because they've made my account so secure even I can't get into it. Steam is garbage, save yourself the headache, go with a different game launcher. Steam is worthless.

Switching to EPIC game store from now on. SIX different games I have purchased from Steam either crash when playing or don't even start. They are SHAMELESS about the BROKEN GARBAGE that they sell on their platform and are slow to respond. It's not like I have an old PC. I have a GAMING PC WITH THE HIGHEST SPECS. I am as mad at myself for continuing to use Steam as I am at Steam. I didn't learn my lesson. I will finally stop using them. They should not be in business.

Poor customer service administration

If it weren't for the poor customer service experience, Steam would be worth a 3-4 star rating. With a few exceptions their launcher and library management structure works quite well for the most part. Their payment processing and account management system though is probably worth a zero to one star rating. Case in point: My account was recently locked for 4 weeks (just in time to miss the summer sale) due to a $2.50 payment for some discounted DLC that didn't go through. This, according to my bank was due to the recipient (i. E. Steam) not taking receipt of the payment. The deduction for the amount was duly made to my credit card account by my bank, but the items I purchased nevertheless promptly removed by Steam from my Steam library. This whole process took less than 3 days. I sent them a bank authorization number in the meantime which probably now is moot due to the fact that they've already cancelled the transaction. Steam will be seeing much less of me in the future no doubt.

Avoid this shop at all costs!

This site does not honor its own policies. They recently refused to allow a refund on a game that was entirely broken, claiming that because it was a pre-order that occurred over 14 days prior to the game's release, the 14 day period for refunds had expired. When questioned about how they could know whether a game would not function upon release, they had no answer other than to say that this is their policy. Other people who purchased the game AFTER release were able to get refunds no problem, but not those who "pre-ordered" the game.
With no other choice, we had to issue a chargeback, at which point Steam banned the entire account blocking access to all previously purchased titles. As the account had already been transferred to a new user, they simply stole that users content.
This is not a company that cares about its users or the products it sells.
There is no reason to buy a game from Steam.. anything you want is available from reputable sellers.

I'm not really a fan of steam, but

I'm not a fan of the steam-flavored monopoly, but I haven't had problems with crashing like others have. As a user interface designer, I find their layout/color options are abysmal, (I can *never* see the search box on my monitor, for example), and like others I find their speed to update the interface to be ridiculously slow (but a little bit faster/better lately)
Also, there are errors that have been around for years and haven't gotten fixed.
I have sent in a few ideas with "please don't reply to me, just forward this" and one of them got implemented not much later.
I've sent in a few help requests and gotten mostly canned answers, but with a little work, the issues were resolved satisfactorily. (Mostly comes from me not being able to use their interface)... I almost never have this sort of issue in any other game or game related software.
Once, many, many years ago, I had created an account, forgot about it, and then used their little account finder tool to see if I had an account or not. The account finder tool told me my account name didn't exist (when it actually did), so I assumed I must not have made the account. When I found my account by talking to a friend who had it on their friends list, I tried to contact support. But the staff gave me the run around until I told them to use the finder tool with my username. The "fix" is I now have 2 steam accounts, one with just a few games on it. Oh well. I'd like to think they would have come up with better ways to verify user accounts now and let you transfer data, google allows for this. But I doubt it.
I have had a few games that I got that don't work anymore (not because of steam), but I blame the game company for that, not steam. I leave a bad review on the game and move on.
I haven't tried to return a game I just bought, so I don't have the ability to comment on that.

Worst customer support ever experienced.

Wanted to buy a game, but their creditcard system had an error processing my purchase. Contacted support and they basically send me a template reply saying that I just needed to wait and contact them again in 3 days.. Meanwhile the offer on the game was expired, contacted them about it too , but support ignored the issue until I said Ill take it up with the developer.. only then did they reply back to me.
In the end still couldn't help me, but instead I bought it even cheaper at another website.

My relation with Steam support has been…

My relation with Steam support has been a bit wavy for sometime. But recently my account got hacked and i couldn't enter anymore. Steam handled the situation really profesionally, i entered some purchase ID's and within 2 hours my account was back with me.
Thank you Steam Support!

Steam refused my refund because I was…

Steam refused my refund because I was over the two week threshold. Now, I had only 50 minutes in game trying to fix what was making the game crash. I wanted to make it work, so it took days of trying new things. I finally gave up and requested a refund, which they smugly denied. I have spent thousands in my 20 years on steam, and the deny a refund on a game I can't even play?
*Update*
I got a hold of Steam support, they made it right! The rep was super nice and quite helpful. She explained that the refund request selection was not seen by a person, but was handled automatically within the set parameters. So, always reach out to them if you are slightly outside of the return threshold ( 2 hours in game, or 1 week of ownership ).

Terrible reading skills

I'm not sure when I've ever seen such bad support. They refuse to even read the tickets properly. Even after pointing out that they had completely misunderstood the issue, they just repeated the answer and forced the ticket to close. Terrible.

Very poor customer service experience

This review requires context.

I intended to buy a gift with the remaining money from my Steam Wallet. I was about $8 short of the gift, so I figured it would charge the $8 I was short on my credit card. After about 3 minutes, I realized that the transaction hadn't charged my Steam Wallet at all, and the entire balance was charged to my card. I attempted to refund this, but was declined twice, and told that my purchase did not meet the requirements of their refund policy. They did not explain to me why. I wanted to speak with someone with support, but was unable to do so after sending multiple requests to. Eventually, my gift was refunded, but as credit to my Steam wallet, and not to my bank account as I originally wanted. This entire process lasted 2 days. Now I am currently trying to get the balance I originally had on my Steam Wallet (which is still there) and just transfer that to my bank account which would effectively accomplish what I was trying to do in the first place.

I believe that all of this trouble could have been avoided by just speaking with a support rep either by phone or live chat. Unfortunately, Steam Support doesn't appear to have an option to request a chat with support reps which I think is a monumental disgrace. I've been using the Steam service for over 8 years and will continue to do so. I have been largely satisfied with my time using the service, but this has really made me dissatisfied with Steam as a whole.
